Crosby, Liverpool Kitchen Renovation Case Study

Shaker style kitchens are timeless and classic, elegant in their simplicity. When you think of Shaker, though, do you picture the kitchen as white? Unfussy does not mean boring, and just because you want a Shaker kitchen, that does not mean you have to have a kitchen that is stark and white. Recently, Prestige Granite and Marble did a kitchen renovation in Crosby, Liverpool that took the clean purity of a Shaker style kitchen and elevated it, with a black kitchen idea Crosby clients envisioned for their home.

Creating a Shaker style kitchen in Liverpool is not unusual, because this is the kind of kitchen design Liverpool residents have embraced for years. In fact, Shaker style kitchens have been popular for many years across the world, and the trend shows no sign of slowing. Why? Because the simplicity of this kind of kitchen lends itself to just about any décor style, so whether your aesthetic is minimalistic, Farmhouse style, eclectic, industrial, or anything in between, choosing a Shaker style kitchen gives you a beautiful backdrop on which to realise your vision.

In this Crosby home renovation, though, the homeowners wanted to do something a little bit different. As much as they liked the look of the Shaker style cabinetry, they wanted their kitchen to look a little bit chicer and more modern. For the cabinet colour, they chose a beautiful matte black. The backsplash they designed using small white tiles, with a sheen and texture that adds interest and keeps the look from being drab. For the hardware, they chose brushed nickel but varied the shapes, using a mixture of round knobs and bar pulls.

The crowning glory of the kitchen, though, is the quartz provided by Prestige Granite and Marble. Wanting to achieve the look of marble worktops, the clients chose Itastone Azzuro White Quartz. A stunning option from a leader in luxury quartz, Azzuro White Quartz features distinct grey and taupe veins for a look that somehow manages to be both striking and understated. This gorgeous quartz is featured on the worktops, upstands, and island bar. On the large island bar, the worktops cascade over the sides as gracious waterfall end panels.

The island is as functional as it is beautiful. Providing seating for three, it is perfect for children doing their homework, guests keeping the host company during party preparations, or entertaining space. Additionally, it features a double sink with widespread, modern, touchless faucet. Since the island features ample work space, it is convenient to have the sink placed within easy reach of the large island worktops. Above the island, three inverted tulip pendant lamps made of smoky glass draw attention to the stunning marble-look surface below. Completing the look of this gorgeous kitchen is a light hardwood floor that runs diagonally to the island, adding interest while still remaining subtle.

Quartz is a material that continues to grow in popularity, because of its low-maintenance versatility. Unlike true marble, which is a natural stone, quartz worktops are manmade. This gives quartz worktops greater consistency, and many have the look of marble, as is the case with Azzuro White Quartz from Itastone. While marble must be sealed and resealed every six months or so, quartz worktops are non-porous, so they do not require sealing, and they are not prone to staining. Further, quartz is stronger and less brittle than natural stone, so it is less likely to chip, scratch, or break. Choosing this particular quartz was a smart move on the part of the clients, because now they have a durable, beautiful workspace that looks like classic marble yet will hold up against the wear and tear of a modern kitchen.

Another brilliant choice was the decision to go with black cabinets. More and more, homeowners are choosing Shaker cabinetry in colours other than white, putting their own personality into the kitchen while still leaving it open to a variety of décor options. This particular kitchen is beautifully designed, and Prestige Granite and Marble is proud to have been able to contribute, installing all that lovely quartz.
